“There are no foreign lands. It is the traveler only who is foreign.”
– Robert Louis Stevenson
Bali has just got to be one of the most breathtaking islands that I have ever visited. We were staying at the Hotel Padma Bali in Legian and the hotel spa is amazing with lots of treatments to choose from. The ‘mandi lulur’ or Javanese body scrub is sensational. However, after a few days of terrific treats we wanted to venture out and see the real Bali. The great thing about Bali is that you can find somewhere beautiful around every corner. It’s known as the island of 1000 temples and some of them are spectacular. We visited Tirta Empul close to Tampaksiring which you get to from Ubud in the south east of the island. To get there we passed rice paddies which have changed little in thousands of years, and are still watered buy irrigation channels. At Tirta Empul we made an offering at the temple so that we could bathe in the sacred waters of the pool which is meant to bring health and fortune. I certainly felt fortunate to be in such a magical place.
